DESCRIPTION The New Zealand Map Society had its beginnings in 1977 as the New Zealand Map Keepers Circle. As the original name suggests, the Society was initially formed to bring together people who worked with maps. In 1987 the Society changed its name as part of a move to broaden its membership to include not only those who work with maps, but also map collectors, map users and people with an interest in New Zealand geography and history.
